The FHSAA Announces Seventh Annual Sunshine State Spirit Showdown Competition

Gainesville, Fla. – The Florida High School Athletic Association welcomes all member schools to participate in the 2019-2020 Sunshine State Spirit Showdown. Created in 2013, The Sunshine State Spirit Showdown encourages good sportsmanship and school spirit through healthy competition between member schools.

In order to compete, schools must submit a video that is 90 seconds to 3 minutes in length. Each video must include a 30-second segment explaining why that school has the best student section in the state. Content must be appropriate and must be uploaded to the FHSAA’s YouTube channel. The deadline for submissions is February 3rd, 2020.

All submissions will be judged by the FHSAA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The SAAC will rank video submissions based on the following criteria: positive emphasis, student body and community participation, spirit, originality, creativity, and organization. Fans can also help add bonus points to their favorite school’s overall score by voting during the fan voting period, which starts February 10th and ends February 24th at 5:00 pm.

The winner of the Sunshine State Spirit Showdown will be announced on March 10th, 2020. The winner will receive a plaque and banner from the FHSAA, which will be presented during a pep rally hosted by the winning school.

Past winners of the Sunshine State Spirit Showdown include Lake Howell High School, Clay High School (Green Cove Springs), Fort Walton Beach High School, and River Ridge High School (New Port Richey). All member schools are encouraged to showcase their videography and creativity when submitting their videos.
