River Ridge High School selected as winner of third annual Sunshine State Spirit Showdown

GAINESVILLE —Rain or shine, win or lose, student sections across the state go above and beyond to support their schools. Today, the FHSAA announced River Ridge High School as the winner of the third annual Sunshine State Spirit Showdown. The competition is designed to promote a community-wide feel of enthusiasm while showcasing sportsmanship and school spirit. The contest featured eight finalists with the Purple Posse being crowned the 2016 champions.

The members of FHSAA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee judged the entries on sportsmanship, participation, passion, organization of student body, creativity and entertainment.

“Out of all the videos, it was the most original in terms of content and uniqueness,” said Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member and Seacrest Country Day School student Tyler Lopes. “River Ridge had a concept with the star running back graduating but recognizing the student body that has always been there. Overall, we felt it was the most complete video and was deserving of being the winner.”

Representatives from the FHSAA will present a commemorative plaque and a personalized banner to this year’s champions, River Ridge High at an award ceremony. River Ridge’s Purple Posse video, as well as videos from the other seven finalists, can be viewed on the FHSAA’s YouTube channel.
