Stephen O’Neill, 55, has officiated high school contests in Ohio, West Virginia, Tennessee and Florida for 38 years. For the past 22 years, he has served as an FHSAA-registered contest official in the sports of baseball, basketball and football.

O’Neill has officiated three FHSAA Florida Football Finals state championship games and 12 FHSAA Florida Finals state tournaments in girls and boys basketball. He has actively officiated youth sports activities throughout Brevard County and assisted in training and recruiting new officials since 1981.

O’Neill, a member of the National Federation Officials Association, was president of the Mid-Coast Officials Association for five years and treasurer for two years. He has been a spring training umpire at Dodgertown in Vero Beach since 1996 and was named the NFOA National Distinguished Official of the Year in 1997.

Being dedicated to the community, O’Neill has officiated in many charitable and civic activities. He has officiated two Big Brother-Big Sister football games in Brevard County and has been a volunteer umpire for the Space Coast Challenger Handicap Softball League. O’Neill is currently a Eucharist minister for Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne.

O’Neill continues to be active in his local officials association and officiates football, basketball and baseball for FHSAA member schools in the central Florida area.
