Ronald L. "Ron" Allen

Ron Allen retired in 2003 as the FHSAA Associate Commissioner for Athletic Operations, a position he held for 10 years. He experienced high school athletics as a student-athlete, coach and administrator before joining the FHSAA staff.

Allen was a three-sport athlete at Hutchinson High School in Kansas in the mid-1950s, playing football and basketball and competing in track & field. He was also a cross country and track & field athlete at Hutchinson Junior College, where he was a national champion in the 880-yard run twice, and at the University of Florida from 1958 to 1961, winning the SEC championship in the same event in 1960. He obtained a master's degree from Pittsburgh State University in 1967 .

Allen served as head track & field coach at both Chamberlain and Robinson high schools in Tampa and Sarasota High School, and was an assistant football coach at all three schools. He became the principal of Chamberlain from 1978 to 1983 and Gaither High School in Tampa from 1984 to 1993. During his tenure at Gaither, Allen was the president of the FHSAA Board of Directors for three years.

Allen joined the FHSAA staff in 1993 as a deputy commissioner. In this position, he served as the liaison for the athletic directors and officials advisory committees and supervised the statewide athletics operation, as well as acting as the facilitator of the sectional appeals committee meetings for hardship cases for the south Florida sections. Allen received the 2003 Honor, Courage and Commitment Award from the US Marines, a corporate partner of the FHSAA.
