Richard Esterline has been contributing to the FHSAA in numerous capacities for 60 years. He has been a basketball official for 51 years, a football official for 34 years, and a softball official for more than 34 years, officiating more than 1,900 FHSAA interscholastic contests. Esterline was a charter member of the Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) and has served as an officer in various sports. He is one of the few individuals to win a state championship as a high school student-athlete (in Fort Lauderdale in 1946) and also officiate a basketball state tournament.

Esterline was selected as the 1995 National Federation of State High School Associations Women’s Basketball Official of the Year and also received Official of the Year accolades from the FHSAA in basketball (1987-88, 1995) and softball (2007). In 1993, he was inducted into the St. Thomas Aquinas and Broward County Halls of Fame. He was actively involved in the development of new FHSAA programs, most notably the implementation of fast-pitch softball statewide.

Today, Esterline serves as Booking Commissioner for softball for the BCAA and continues to give back by training and assisting not only officials, but also administrators, with his expertise.
