Paul McLaughlin

Inducted 2013

Pioneer. Leadership. Professional. Time and time again throughout his career, Paul McLaughlin has embodied these traits to great effect.

McLaughlin has worn many hats serving in high school athletics in Florida, whether it was officiating as part of the Suncoast Umpire Association in Pinellas County, coaching baseball and football at Dunedin and Pinellas Park or overseeing numerous sports as an administrator and Assistant Executive Director at the FHSAA.

On a national level, McLaughlin worked with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) football and wrestling rules committees, published eight articles in the Officials Quarterly Magazine and moderating workshops at three NFHS Summer Meetings. He implemented the use of  online rules presentations for officials and coaches in Florida—the first state to do so—and this has now been duplicated in many states as it is cost-effective and can efficiently reach large groups.

McLaughlin was a member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA) and the FHSAA Board of Directors during his tenure. He received the state award of merit from the FIAAA in 1991, was the third person from Florida to receive a National Federation Citation and received the Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s Distinguished Service Award in 2008.
