John Messina

Inducted 2013

John Messina is an exemplary contributor to athletics in the state of Florida. John has served as a head coach for 20 years, an assistant coach for 14 years, and an Athletic Director for 15 years, currently serving as Athletic Director at Centennial High School in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

His involvement has been in basketball, golf, bowling, softball, and most notably baseball.  John has an impressive record of 465 wins and 160 losses, which began during his 23 year coaching and administration span at Pace High School in Miami. He coached his teams to three state titles, two state runner-ups, and has appeared in six straight final fours.

Messina has sent over 90 players to the next level-- either drafted to the majors or have played college baseball. He has won Florida State Coach of the Year four times and was nominated as the Collegiate Baseball Coach of the Decade in the 1980’s.

Messina has most recently made his impact as an administrator. He has won an FIAAA meritorious Service Award in 2009, two FHSAA State Sportsmanship Awards (2004, 2007), and has served on the FHSAA Representative Assembly for eight years.  He has also been a member of the FACA for 20 years, and serves as district chairperson. He was instrumental in bringing the FHSAA State Baseball Finals to St. Lucie County for four successful years and has been exceptionally influential on all of those who have had the pleasure of knowing him.
