Jeff Sommer was inducted into the Florida High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016 after an illustrious 28-year coaching career at Estero High school in Estero, Florida. The Lima, Ohio, native also served nine years as the athletic director at EHS (2006-15).

Coaching boys and girls cross country and track & field in Estero from 1987 to 2015, Sommer won eight state championships, including four in boys cross country and four in girls cross country. In addition, the seven-time Coach of the Year guided his student-athletes to nearly 20 individual state championships.

The first recipient of the News-Press All-Area Coach of the Year Award, Sommer also coached three state championship teams in the 4 x 800 meter relay in track & field. Other championships won by Sommer include 13 regional titles and 17 district titles.

In 2010, he was named the Florida Dairy Farmers 2A Coach of the Year for both boys and girls cross country. The next year, he was honored as the National Federation of State High School Associations State Coach of the Year.
