Gary Shiffrin

Administrator
Inducted 2014

After a failed eye exam sidetracked him from his ultimate goal of attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Gary Shiffrin had a 42-year career tied to the Brevard County public school system before his retirement in 2013. He relished the opportunity to impact kids as an educator.

Shiffrin’s record included service as dean of students, coach, assistant principal, principal and athletic director. Additionally, he was heavily involved with the Cape Coast Conference, which included all Brevard and Indian River County schools. He started as the secretary and treasurer and eventually assumed the role of Commisssioner in 1991. Shiffrin held that position for 21 years, considering his greatest accomplishment to be author of a transfer policy that prevented students from transferring from one public school to another without giving up a full year of eligibility.

Shiffrin recently assisted in beginning the Breakfast of Champions program for Brevard County in conjunction with the Florida Sports Commission and Space Coast Promotions. On a statewide level, Shiffrin served on the FHSAA’s Representative Assembly for two years and was one of three finalists for the FHSAA Commissioner position in 2004.
