Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Reclassification
As the FHSAA is preparing to finalize details on the reclassification process, there have been many inquiries regarding it. Please browse the enclosed FAQs to see if your question can be answered.
Q: When will enrollment figures and football classifications be available?
A: The FHSAA Office plans on posting both enrollment numbers and football classifications by mid-December. Note: Enrollment numbers for some schools have been adjusted because there are existing schools losing students due to the opening of new schools.
Q: Will there be an appeal process?
A: Yes. A school can appeal its district assignment during the appeal window, which is slated to be from Dec. 15 through Jan. 9. THE DEADLINE IS FINAL. No extensions will be granted. The principal needs to send a letter to the FHSAA Office prior to the deadline of the appeals process.
Q: Can a school appeal to play down for geographic reasons?
A: Yes. A school can always appeal its assigned district assignment once the assignments are released later this month. The principal needs to send a letter to the FHSAA Office prior to the deadline of the appeals process.
Q: What if a school originally chose to be independent for football? Can the school change its commitment now?
A: Yes. If a school wants to change its commitment, the principal needs to send a letter to the FHSAA Office as soon as possible.
Q: Our school has less students now than when we reported our enrollment. Can our school lower our classification enrollment number?
A: Most, if not all schools, have less students now than they did in October during FTE week. No changes in reported enrollment can be made.
Q: Our school would like to play up in a higher classification. Can we make this request?
A: Yes. The classification policy allows a school to request to play up one classification. The principal needs to send a letter to the FHSAA Office prior to the deadline of the appeals process.
Q: When will the football districts be final?
A: The FHSAA Office plans to post the final football district assignments on Jan. 16, 2009. Football scheduling meetings are Jan. 28, 2009.
