FHSAA Board of Directors Recap For November Meeting

GAINESVILLE, FL (11/13/17) – The Florida High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors conducted their second meeting of the 2017-18 school year Monday in Gainesville.

The Board voted to allow up to two FHSAA boys' and two FHSAA girls' basketball teams from Florida to participate in the 2018 Dick’s Nationals basketball tournament. The DICK’S Nationals will serve as a postseason high school basketball tournament for both boys and girls teams and will be held March 29-31, 2018 in New York City.

The Board also approved a proposal from the Paragon Marketing Group, allowing FHSAA member schools to participate in the 2017 State Champions Bowl Series (SCBS). Paragon’s postseason bowl games at the conclusion of the football season feature championship teams from multiple states. A selection committee—developed by Paragon—will choose schools from participating state high school associations that have won a state championship, taking credible, recognized national rankings into consideration.

Schools that are selected by Paragon and elect to participate in the SCBS will receive either a $12,500 rights fee or a $25,000 merchandise account with an athletic shoe and apparel company or a sporting goods retail company, or a prorated combination of the two aforementioned types of compensation. Additionally, Paragon will also handle all travel expenses for up to 75 people in the travel squad.
