Linell Kent Lowe, veteran FHSAA official passes away

Linell Kent Lowe, 70, of Winter Garden, passed away tragically on Saturday, May 14, 2016.  Lowe was a 30+ year veteran volleyball and basketball official with the FHSAA and the Mid-Florida Volleyball Officials Association and Central Florida Officials Association.  He was originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, and served in the U.S. Army.  He was an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 

Kent officiated numerous State Volleyball Tournaments in his career.  He was selected to officiate the FHSAA’s Inaugural Boys Volleyball Tournament in 2003 and the 2015 FHSAA Girls Volleyball Tournament, along with his crew partner Ms. Sandy Barnhill.  Lowe served as the Vice President of the Mid Florida Volleyball Officials Association for 10 years, served as the Education Committee Chairperson for 10 years, served on their Constitution and By-Laws Committee, and was the Chief Evaluator of Officials.  He was also an integral part of the merging of the Mid Florida Volleyball Officials Association and Central Florida Officials Association’s Volleyball division.  He also served numerous times on the FHSAA Volleyball Rules Test Question Committee.  Kent annually spearheaded the Heritage Christian Pre-Season Tournament and organized the accompanied officials to the Christian High School State Tournament.   Kent was greatly admired by his fellow officers of his local associations and their member officials, as well as the FHSAA.
