First Academy's Don re-elected to Board of Directors; six run-off elections to be held
Darrell Don, athletic director at The First Academy (Orlando), was re-elected to a second term as the private school representative of Section 2 on the FHSAA Board of Directors during the Governance Elections that were held March 28 – April 5. Kevin Whelan, the athletic director of G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School in Miami was also elected to the Board of Directors as the public school representative of Section 4. Incumbent James Colzie, athletic director at Miami Christian School, will be in a run-off election with Westminster Academy (Fort Lauderdale) athletic director Dr. Leo Orsino as the Section 4 private school representative on the Board of Directors. A run-off election will also be needed to determine the Section 1 public school representative on the Board of Directors between Randy Ward, principal at Grand Ridge Middle School, and John Gwynes, athletic director at Ed White High School (Jacksonville).
Run-off elections will also be needed to determine public school representatives on the Section Appeals Committee for each of the four sections. In Section 1; Tammy Talley (AD, Mandarin High School) and Paul O’Halloran (AD, Lincoln High School), Section 2; Lamarr Glenn (AD, Wekiva High School) and Donald Blackmon (AD, Cocoa Beach High School), Section 3; Mark Rosenbalm (AD, Barron Collier High School) and Javan Turner (AD, Gibbs High School) and Section 4; Marcus Gabriel (AD, American Senior High School) and Dianne Sanzari (AD, Coral Springs High School).
The six run-off elections will take place beginning Monday, April 9 through Friday, April 13.
Elected to the Representative Assembly are Divisions 1 and 2 private school representative Richard LaBounty (AD, Pensacola Catholic High School), Division 19 public school representative Traci Durrance (AD, Plant City High School) and Division 23 public school representative William Blakemore (AD, South Fort Myers High School. The Board of Directors will need to break a tie between Division 11 public school representatives Jim Gawriluk (AD, Deltona High School) and Staci Hahn (AD, University High School [Orange City]) during the June 12, 2012 Board of Directors meeting.
