Tentative reclassifications announced for sanctioned team sports other than football for 2011-12, 2012-13 school years
Note from Dr. Dearing:
The team sports classifications and districts are based upon the population categories approved by the Board of Directors during the November meeting. In sending these out now, we recognize that there are a few problems in soccer and isolated areas in baseball and softball dealing with numbers of teams per district. The FHSAA staff will be taking some recommendations to the Board in January regarding these issues. However, for now, these are the tentative classifications and districts per Board approval for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years.
Dear School Principals and Athletic Directors;
We are posting the new classification and district assignments in sanctioned team sports (except football) for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years based upon the FHSAA Board-approved population guidelines. There are now eight classifications (1A through 8A) for all sanctioned team sports except soccer which only has seven (2A through 8A).
The 1A classification is the new Rural Division. The 2A classification is the Urban Division. 3A and 4A are the old 2A and 2B. And, 5A through 8A are the old 3A through 6A.
There is an appeal process which is covered in Policy 12 of the FHSAA handbook. The date for football classification and district assignment appeals is Friday, Jan. 7, 2011.
- All appeals must be in writing, signed by the principal or headmaster of the school, stating the specific reasons for the appeal and which portion of Policy 12 applies for your request.
- All appeals must be addressed to Dr. Peggy Jones, Assistant Executive Director, at the FHSAA offices and received no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011.
