First Academy's (Orlando) Don wins election to FHSAA Board of Directors
GAINESVILLE Darrell Don, the athletic director at The First Academy (Orlando) has won election to the FHSAA Board of Directors, the FHSAA office announced today. Don defeated Joseph Dougerty, principal at Halifax Academy, to claim the Section 2 private school seat on the Board of Directors.
Elsewhere, Blountstown Middle assistant principal Keith Summers has won re-election for the Section 1 public school seat on the Board of Directors. There are two run-off elections for a seat on the Board of Directors: Joel Furnari, athletic director of South Dade (Homestead), and Dianne Sanzari, athletic director of Coral Springs will face each other for the Section 4 public school seat; James Colzie, athletic director at Miami Christian, and Charles Sennett, athletic director at Miami Country Day, will face each other for the Section 4 private school seat.
In races for seats on the four sectional appeals committees, Randy Ward, principal at Marianna, won re-election to the Section 2 public school seat, while Kevin Whelan, athletic director at Braddock (Miami), won his election to the Section 4 public school seat. Run-off elections will take place for the following:
Section 2 public school seat - John Magrino, athletic director at Dr. Phillips (Orlando) and Tim Sparkman, athletic director at Astronaut (Titusville).
Section 3 public school seat - Val Patarini, athletic director at Hardee (Wauchula), Danielle Shotwell, athletic director at Bloomingdale (Valrico), and Javan Turner, athletic director at Lakewood (St. Petersburg).
In the races for seats on the Representative Assembly, there are four run-offs:
Division 6 Public School Delegate - Cindy Boulware, athletic director at Gainesville, and Ken Roland, athletic director at Fernandina Beach.
Divisions 11-12 Private School Delegate - Brandt McFarlin, athletic director at Seven Rivers Christian (Lecanto), and Jack Clark, athletic director at Calvary Christian (Ormond Beach).
Divisions 27-28 Private School Delegate - James Foster, athletic director at Pine Crest School (Fort Lauderdale), and Byron Walker, athletic director at American Heritage (Plantation).
Divisions 31-32 Private School Delegate - Mark Schusterman, athletic director at Gulliver Prep (Coral Gables), William Healy, athletic director at St. Brendan (Miami); and Jake Von Scherrer, athletic director at Palmer Trinity (Miami).
