Bradenton Prep appeals 12 of 19 allegations
GAINESVILLE - The FHSAA State Infractions Committee decided to reduce fines and penalties for Bradenton Preparatory Academy today.
Bradenton Prep appealed 12 of the 19 allegations stemming from numerous violations of FHSAA policies. Listed are the allegations appealed and results:
Violation of FHSAA Policy 38 (Policy on Athletic Recruiting, allegation seven): The violation was overruled 3-2. The penalty and fine of $1,500 was rescinded to $0.
Violation of FHSAA Bylaw 11.4.10 (Use of an Ineligible Student, allegations eight through ten): The violation was sustained 5-0. The committee accepted the Executive Director's recommendation to fine Bradenton Prep $1,500 per incident.
Violation of FHSAA Policy 38 (Policy on Athletic Recruiting, allegation 11): The violation was sustained 4-1. The committee accepted the Executive Director's recommendation to fine the school $1,500.
Violation of FHSAA Policy 9 (Financial Policies, allegation 12): The violation was overruled 5-0. The penalty and fine of $500 was rescinded to $0.
Violation of FHSAA Policy 38 (Policy on Athletic Recruiting, allegation number 13): The violation was modified by a vote of 3-2. The three year restrictive probation was lifted for the boys tennis team and the fine was reduced from $1,500 to $250.
Violation of FHSAA Policy 38 (Policy on Athletic Recruiting, allegations 14 through 18): The violation was sustained 3-2. The committee accepted the executive directors recommendation to fine Bradenton Prep $3,000 per incident.
Bradenton Prep's football and basketball teams are on restrictive probation for three school years, beginning with the 2008-09 school year and ending at the conclusion of the 2010-2011 school year. The school now owes $34,750.
The Infractions Appeals Committee has five members: Mr. William Jablon, Headmaster of Maclay School; Dr. Shaune Storch, Principal of Lake Howell High School; Mr. Dudley Goodlette, Attorney; Mr. Norm Ross, Deputy Superintendent of Escambia County; Brother Angelo Palmeri, Superintendent of the Archdiocese of Miami.
Bradenton Prep has five business days to send a letter of appeal for the next Board of Directors meeting, which will be held September 28-29 in Gainesville.

The Florida High School Athletic Association is the governing body for interscholastic athletics in Florida. It has a membership of more than 700 middle and senior high schools, and sponsors postseason competitions to determine the official state high school champions in 30 different sports.
