Bishop Kenny's West wins election to FHSAA Board of Directors

GAINESVILLE – Bob West, assistant principal and athletic director of Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville has won election to the FHSAA Board of Directors, the FHSAA office announced today. West defeated Richard Finlayson, principal of Aucilla Christian Academy in Monticello, and Matt Morris, athletic director of The Bolles School in Jacksonville to claim the Section 1 private school seat on the Board of Directors.

Elsewhere, Apopka athletic director Russell Wambles and Mainland (Daytona Beach) athletic director Dick Toth will run off for the Section 2 public school seat on the Board of Directors; while Columbus (Miami) assistant principal and athletic director Chris McKeon and Seacrest Country Day (Naples) athletic director Mark Marsala will face each other in a run off for the Section 4 private school board seat.

The FHSAA general election ran from Wednesday, April 2, through Friday April 11. Run-off elections will begin at 6 a.m. Monday, April 21 and continue through 5:59 a.m. Thursday, May 1.

In races for seats on the four sectional appeals committees, Chiles (Tallahassee) athletic director Paul Lambert defeated First Coast (Jacksonville) athletic director Martin Lee for a public school seat on the Section 1 Appeals Committee; Boone (Orlando) athletic director Doug Patterson, Mount Dora athletic director John Hallowell and Nease (Ponte Vedra) principal Linda Thomson will face off in a 3-way run-off for a public school seat on the Section 2 Appeals Committee; and Wellington Christian athletic director Matthew Winters and Miami Country Day athletic director Chuck Sennett will run off for a private school seat on the Section 4 Appeals Committee. Fort Pierce Central athletic director Jay Stewart was unopposed in his bid for election to a public school seat on the Section 3 Appeals Committee.

In two races for seats on the Representative Assembly, Navarre athletic director Scott Murphy defeated Milton principal Stewart R. "Buddy" Powell and Jay athletic director Elijah F. Bell for the Division 1 public school delegate seat; and Taylor County Middle (Perry) principal Paul Dyal defeated Wilkinson Junior (Middleburg) principal David J. McDonald and Lake City Middle athletic director Burt Robertson for the Section 1 middle school delegate seat.
