Largo assistant principal elected to FHSAA Board of Directors
GAINESVILLE Largo High School assistant principal Greg Zornes has been elected to the Section 3 public school seat on the FHSAA Board of Directors, the FHSAA Office announced today.
There were a total of nine races held across the state as part of the FHSAA's general election, which began on April 1 and concluded on April 10. All but two of the races were decided on the first ballot. Those two races will be decided by run-off elections to be held later this month.
Zornes defeated Astronaut (Titusville) athletic director Tim Sparkman, Fort Pierce Central athletic director Jay Stewart and Rockledge athletic director Bonita Holland for the seat by garnering 68 percent of the votes cast. Zornes fills the seat currently held by Alonso (Tampa) principal Louis Diaz. Diaz was appointed to the seat earlier this year by the Board of Directors after it was vacated by former Clearwater High School principal Nick Grasso, who resigned to accept a position in the Pinellas County School Board district office.
Zornes' term of office begins July 1 and continues through the end of the 2009-10 school year.
