FHSAA unveils logo for first-ever 3-point showdown
GAINESVILLE The Florida High School Athletic Association today unveiled the official logo for the Association's inaugural statewide 3-point shooting competition.
The "First-Ever FHSAA 3-Point Showdown" will be conducted simultaneously with the FHSAA girls and boys basketball championships. Competition will begin during district tournament play, continue in the regional tournament championship rounds and conclude at the 2007 FHSAA Girls Basketball Finals and 2007 FHSAA Boys Basketball Finals in Lakeland.
"This is the FHSAA's first venture into individual skills competitions and we're pleased to offer this opportunity to girls and boys basketball players," said FHSAA Commissioner John A. Stewart. "We think it will add a new level of excitement to our state basketball

playoffs."
Here's how the competition will work:
Each school participating in a district tournament will be able to enter two shooters into the competition that precedes its first game in the district tournament. All shooters must be players on their respective teams and must be dressed in their team uniforms.
The shooters from the two teams playing in a district tournament game will shoot immediately before the warmup period preceding their game. Each shooter will have 45 seconds to shoot three racks of five balls each (15 balls total). The shooting positions will be at each side of the lane at the free-throw line extended and at the top of the key. Each made basket will count as 1 point. The two shooters who score the most points will advance to the next round of competition, which will take place before the game in the next round of the bracket into which their teams will advance if they win. Shooters will advance independently of their teams. So, a shooter who qualifies to advance to the next round will do so even if his or her team does not. A tiebreaker round, if needed, will last 30 seconds and will consist of two racks of five balls each located in both corners of the court.
The four district winners in each region will advance to the regional round of competition, which will be held at the site of the regional tournament championship game.
The four regional winners in each classification will advance to the state competition on Championship Friday and Saturday in Lakeland. Competition to determine the winners in the six classifications will take place immediately preceding the Class 3A, 5A and 2A championship games. The state winners in the six classifications then will compete against each other just before the Class 6A championship game to determine the state's overall top 3-point shooter.
