Football, girls volleyball headline 2005-06 participation results
GAINESVILLE Boys 11-man tackle football and girls volleyball had the highest participation during the 2005-06 school year according to the Florida High School Athletic Association's annual sports participation survey results, which were released today.
Football had a total of 37,733 boys and 15 girls participating on 466 teams in high schools across the state. Track & field was the next most popular sport for boys with 13,642 participants and 467 teams, while basketball had 12,740 participants and 546 teams.
Volleyball was the most popular sport for girls, with 12,358 participants on 546 teams, followed by soccer with 11,969 participants on 448 teams and track & field with 11,414 on 474 teams.
