Cotter, Malloy, Modugno win runoffs for seats on FHSAA Board of Directors

GAINESVILLE – Bob Cotter of Clearwater Central Catholic High School, Jeff Malloy of Oak Hall School (Gainesville) and Ernie Modugno of Naples High School have won run-off elections for seats on the FHSAA Board of Directors, the FHSAA Office announced today.

Cotter and Malloy currently are members of the Board of Directors and prevailed in their bids for re-election. Cotter, the athletic director at Clearwater Central Catholic, defeated Florida Air Academy (Melbourne) athletic director Jim O'Malley, 35-17, for the Section 3 private school representative seat on the Board of Directors. Malloy, the athletic director at Oak Hall School, defeated Bishop Moore High School (Orlando) athletic director Mike Malatesta, 23-17, for the Section 2 private school representative seat.

Modugno, the athletic director at Naples, meanwhile, edged Miami Sunset High School athletic director George Phelan, 39-38, to win the Section 4 public school representative seat on the board currently held by Dianne Sanzari, athletic director of Coral Springs High School. Sanzari finished third in the general election and failed to qualify for the run-off election.

Run-off elections were also held for seats on three sectional appeals committees.

Marianna Middle School principal Randy Ward narrowly defeated Chiles High School (Tallahassee) athletic director Paul Lambert, 14-13, for the public school representative seat on the Section 1 Appeals Committee; and South Fort Myers athletic director Mark Marsala defeated Braddock High School (Miami) athletic director Donald Lape for the public school representative seat on the Section 4 Appeals Committee.

The race for the public school representative seat on the Section 2 Appeals Committee between West Orange High School (Winter Garden) athletic director John Boston and DeLand High School athletic director Craig Clements ended in a 17-17 tie. The FHSAA Board of Directors will break the tie at its June 2 meeting in Atlantic Beach.

One seat on the FHSAA Representative Assembly also was decided in a run-off election. Miami Country Day School athletic director Chuck Sennett defeated Monsignor Pace High School (Miami) athletic director Joe Zaccheo. 10-6, for the Divisions 29-30 private school delegate seat.

The terms of office for those individuals winning elections will be July 1.
