Winter Park, St. Thomas Aquinas, Bishop Kenny, P.K. Yonge, Bolles, Port St. Joe, Tampa Prep, FAMU, Orangewood Christian lead Dodge Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup all-sports award standings

GAINESVILLE – Winter Park, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale), Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville), P.K. Yonge (Gainesville), Bolles (Jacksonville), Port St. Joe, Tampa Prep, FAMU (Talllahassee) and Orangewood Christian (Maitland) lead their respective categories following winter sports competition in the 2005-06 Dodge Sunshine Cup FHSAA Floyd E. Lay All-Sports Awards Point Standings.

Winter Park reigns supreme in Class 6A with a 39.8-point advantage over second-place Riverview (Sarasota). St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) stays in command of Class 5A with 339.5 points, 73.5-points ahead of Fort Myers, which finished the winter with 266 points. Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) leads Class 4A with 336.5 points, while second-place Bishop Moore (Orlando) sports 284.5 points. P.K. Yonge ranks at the top of Class 3A public schools with 212 points, besting second-place Keystone Heights by 57.5 points. Bolles (Jacksonville), with 378.5 points, is out in front of the Class 3A private schools by a 53-point gap over Gulliver Prep (Miami). Port St. Joe took the lead in Class 2A public schools with 126.5 points, while second-place Cottondale totaled 112 points. Tampa Prep stands tall in the Class 2A private school category with 243 points, only 12.5 points better than second-place Benjamin (North Palm Beach). FAMU (Tallahassee), with 74 points, sports a scant 10-point lead over Graceville in the Class 1A public school category. Finally, Orangewood Christian (Maitland) takes over the top spot in Class 1A private schools, finishing the winter with 142 points, 21.5 points better than second-place Rocky Bayou (Niceville).

The Dodge Sunshine Cup Floyd E. Lay All-Sports Awards is named in honor of Commissioner-Emeritus Floyd E. Lay, who led the Association from 1963 through 1980. It is presented by Dodge and Your Florida Dodge Dealers, the official vehicle of the Florida High School Athletic Association.

The 636 member senior high schools have been divided into six classifications for administrative purposes based on the enrollments submitted to the FHSAA Office in October 2004, which were used to discern the classifications as they are drawn up now. In accordance with a Board mandate at its November 2002 meeting, Classes 1A, 2A and 3A are further subdivided into public and private categories. An all-sports award will be presented in each of these nine categories in overall, girls and boys divisions at the conclusion of the 2005-06 school year. Points are awarded a school based on its finish in FHSAA State Series competition in each sport in the classification in which it has been assigned to compete. The top 32 places are scored. Points are awarded as follows: 50, 47, 44, 42, 40, 38, 36, 34, 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. When two or more schools are tied for a particular place in a sport, the points allotted for those places are shared equally by the schools that are tied. In the event of a tie for the award in either the overall, girls or boys divisions at the end of the school year, the following tiebreakers will be used: (1) number of state team championships won; (2) number of state team runners-up finishes; (3) number of regional team championships won; (4) number of regional team runners-up finishes; (5) number of district team championships won; and (6) number of district team runners-up finishes.

Winners will be honored in their communities by local Dodge dealers during the 2006-07 school year.
