Swimming & diving finals to remain in Fort Lauderdale
GAINESVILLE Having been assured by convention and visitors bureau officials that hotel accommodations won't be a problem, the FHSAA office today announced that the 2005 FHSAA Swimming & Diving Finals state championship meet will be held at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex as originally planned.
The two-day meet will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19. Swimming preliminaries and boys diving competition in all three classifications will be held on Friday. Swimming finals and girls diving competition in all three classifications will be held on Saturday. A revised competition schedule will be announced next week. Participants in all three classifications, however, must plan on being at the facility on Friday morning for preliminary swimming
"It has always been our first preference to keep the meet in Fort Lauderdale," said Commissioner John A. Stewart. "We were very excited to receive word today that ample lodging will be available for participants and spectators in the area.
Stewart added: "I also want to commend and extend thanks on behalf of the Association to the other facilities and groups that stepped forward and offered to host the event should it need to be moved."
The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau has set up a special phone line for participants and spectators to call to make hotel reservations. The number is 1-800-356-1662 extension 2455. The line will be activated between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily beginning Monday, Nov. 7. It is highly recommended that individuals wait until Monday and use the special phone line, and not attempt to directly contact hotels for reservations.
