8 schools recognized for exemplary sportsmanship during 2004-05 school year

GAINESVILLE – Eight schools are recipients of the 2004-05 FHSAA Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Awards in their respective classifications.

Mitchell High School (New Port Richey) and Inverness Middle School claimed overall state honors in Class 5A and middle schools respectively. They were the only schools honored in those classifications.

The following six schools are recipients of sectional awards and, as such, are finalists for statewide honors in their respective classifications.
• Class 4A – North Marion (Citra) and DeSoto County (Arcadia).
• Class 3A – Bolles (Jacksonville) and The Villages.
• Class 1A – Cedar Key and Temple Heights Christian (Tampa).

All eight schools will be honored at the FHSAA Awards Luncheon on Thursday, June 16, at the Wyndham Westshore Hotel in Tampa. The statewide winners in Classes 4A, 3A and 1A will be announced at the luncheon.

The Florida High School Athletic Association is the governing body for interscholastic athletic competition in Florida. It has a membership of more than 700 middle, junior and senior high schools.
