Finlayson wins Section 1 private school seat on Board of Directors
GAINESVILLE Richard Finlayson, principal of Aucilla Christian Academy in Monticello, has won election to the Section 1 private school seat on the Florida High School Athletic Association Board of Directors. Finlayson defeated Bob West, athletic director of Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, 18-5 in a run-off election. Finlayson will replace Bruce Irvin, athletic director of Maclay School in Tallahassee, who chose not to seek a second term.
In other run-off elections: Michael Lindgren, athletic director of Martin County High School in Stuart, defeated Chip Salerno, athletic director of Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, 6-1 to win the public school representative seat on the Section 3 Appeals Committee; and Joseph Paschal, athletic director of John Carroll High School in Fort Pierce, defeated James O'Malley, athletic director of Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, 4-3, to win the Divisions 23-24 private school delegate seat on the Representative Assembly.
The Florida High School Athletic Association is the governing body for interscholastic athletic competition in Florida. It has a membership of more than 740 middle and senior high schools.
A representative democracy, the FHSAA annually holds elections to fill seats on its Board of Directors, Representative Assembly and sectional appeals committees. Each member school representative may declare his or her candidacy and run for the seat or seats for which he or she is eligible.
