FHSAA Public Liaison Advisory Committee to hold annual public hearings in January

GAINESVILLE – The Florida High School Athletic Association’s Public Liaison Advisory Committee will hold its annual public hearings at four sites across the state in January.

The dates, sites and times for the public hearings are:

• Section 1 – 3-4 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 @ Ramada Inn North (Tallahassee)

• Section 2 – 3-4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 @ Hampton Inn (Ocala)

• Section 3 – 11 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005 @ Polk County District Office (Bartow)

• Section 4 – 3-4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 14, 2005 @ BCAA Office (Fort Lauderdale)

Each hearing has been scheduled for one hour, but will be extended as long as necessary to accommodate individuals who wish to address those committee members who are present.

The FHSAA Public Liaison Advisory Committee is comprised of school administrators, parents, business and media representatives, and legislators. It serves as the conduit through which members of the general public may have input into the decision-making process of the FHSAA, and to assist the Association in the development of procedures regarding the receipt of public input and disposition of complaints related to high school athletic programs. The public hearings are required by Florida Statute and provide members of the public the opportunity to address those committee members present in an open forum regarding the effectiveness of the rules, operation and management of the Association.

The FHSAA Public Liaison Advisory Committee incorporates the minutes of each public hearing into its annual report to the FHSAA Board of Directors, as well as the respective education committees of The Florida Senate and the Florida House of Representatives.

The Florida High School Athletic Association is the governing body for interscholastic athletic competition in the state of Florida. It has a membership of more than 700 middle and senior high schools.
