Board races to be decided in run-offs

GAINESVILLE – Run-off elections will be held to decide all four races for seats on the 2003-04 FHSAA Board of Directors, the FHSAA Office announced today.

Incumbent William S. "Sam" Ward Jr., principal of Orange Park High School, will face off with Keith Summers, assistant principal of Blountstown High School, in the race for the Section 1 public school seat on the Board of Directors. Richard S. Engle, athletic director of First Academy (Orlando), and Jeffrey A. Malloy, athletic director of Oak Hall School (Gainesville), will vy for the Section 2 private school Board seat. The run-off for the Section 3 private school Board seat will be a three-man race between Robert F. Cotter, athletic director of Clearwater Central Catholic High School, Edward L. Gilgenast, principal of Admiral Farragut Academy (St. Petersburg), and Peter N. Shepley, assistant principal of Tampa Preparatory School. Harold Cole, athletic director of Coral Gables High School, and Dianne Sanzari, athletic director of Coral Springs High School, will face off for the Section 4 public school board seat.

Ballots in the Association's annual general election were due for return to the FHSAA Office on April 10, and were counted over the weekend. A total of 42 races were held in the election for seats on the Association's Board of Directors, sectional appeals committees and Representative Assembly.

Run-off ballots will be mailed to all member school representatives this week. Voters will have 10 days to mark and return their run-off ballots to the FHSAA Office. The winners of all elections will take office July 1.
