GAINESVILLE The FHSAA office today publicly unveiled the Association's new logo that will be introduced on July 1, 2003 in conjunction with a return to its original name, "Florida High School Athletic Association.
The new primary FHSAA Logo consists of the italicized FHSAA acronym in an italicized sans-serif typeface and a distinctive slanted shield surrounding an abstract rendering of the state of Florida. The new primary logo has two configurations horizontal and vertical to accommodate different spatial and functional requirements. A secondary logo consisting only of the FHSAA acronym will be used when size restrictions inhibit use of the primary logo, such as its incorporation into other logos.
For times when public familiarity with the FHSAA acronym is not assured, the FHSAA Logo with Logotype will be used. It consists of the horizontally configured primary logo and the Association's legal communicative name, "Florida High School Athletic Association."
The Association is sticking with blue and green as its official colors. Brighter, bolder shades of both colors, however, have been chosen for the new logo.
"It's modern and distinctive, yet clean and simple," said Robert W. Hughes, FHSAA Commissioner, of the new logo. "We wanted a logo that is action-oriented, and easily reproduced whether for display in electronic or print mediums, or for embroidery on apparel. It's an exciting, fresh look for the new millenium."
Work on the new logo began more than a year ago following the FHSAA Board of Directors' decision to seek the change in the Association's name. The FHSAA communications staff explored a variety of concepts before coming up with the final design that was approved by Hughes in late February. The new logo was presented to the FHSAA Board of Directors at its March 31 meeting.
The FHSAA will revise its letterhead, publications, web site, sports-specific and championship logos, contest officials insignia and other applications to include the new logo in coming months.
The Association currently is in the process of securing copyright and trademark protection for the new marks through both Federal and state governments. Usage guidelines and licensing information will be available in the near future.
The Florida High School Activities Association is the governing body for interscholastic athletics in Florida. It has a membership of 668 middle and senior high schools.
