Maclay's Irvin, Forest's Horner elected to FHSAA Board of Directors
GAINESVILLE Bruce W. Irvin and Dave M. Horner have won election to the Florida High School Activities Association Board of Directors.
Irvin, athletic director at Maclay School in Tallahassee, won election to the Administrative Section 1 private school seat on the Board of Directors by defeating Richard Finlayson, principal of Aucilla Christian Academy in Monticello, and Lars D. Galyan, principal of University Christian School in Jacksonville, on the first ballot. Horner, athletic director at Forest High School in Ocala, won election to the Administrative 2 public school seat by defeating Mike OLoughlin, principal of St. Augustine High School, and Dick Toth, athletic director at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, on the first ballot.
Irvin replaces Norm Wein, athletic director at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville. Horner replaces Jim Kirton, principal at Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach. Both Wein and Kirton were ineligible to run for re-election due to term limits.
Ballots in the Associations annual general election were mailed to all 660 member school representatives in the FHSAAs four administrative sections in March. The deadline for returning the ballots to the FHSAA office was April 3. A majority of the votes cast is required for election.
The Board of Directors is the executive authority of the Association. The 15-member board is responsible for the adoption of guidelines, regulations, policies and procedures including the setting of terms and conditions for the FHSAA state championship series and serves as the final court of appeal in all matters pertaining to interscholastic athletics.
Run-off ballots where required will be mailed from the FHSAA later this week. The deadline for returning the run-off ballots to the FHSAA office is May 3.
