FHSAA Florida Softball Finals bound for Tampa

GAINESVILLE – Rights to serve as host for the 2002 and 2003 FHSAA Florida Softball Finals state championship tournament has been awarded to Hillsborough County Public Schools, the FHSAA Office announced today. The tournament will be held at Ed Radice Sports Complex in North Tampa.

Proposals to host the Florida Softball Finals were received from Hillsborough County Public Schools, the City of Plant City and the City of Auburndale, which has served as host for the event for the past four years.

“We are pleased to award the FHSAA Florida Softball Finals to Hillsborough County Public Schools,” Commissioner Robert W. Hughes said. “The Ed Radice Sports Complex is a state-of-the-art facility which already is serving as host for two other FHSAA Florida Finals state championship events. We look forward to expanding our working relationship with Mr. Vernon Kohrn, Director of Athletics for Hillsborough County Public Schools, and Mr. Scott Burkett, Athletic Director for the Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department."

The 2001 FHSAA Florida Cross Country Finals were held at Ed Radice Sports Complex in November. The 2002 FHSAA Florida Soccer Finals in Class A and Class 2A will be held at the facility in February.

The dates for the FHSAA Florida Softball Finals are May 8-10, 2002 and May 14-16, 2003.

The Florida High School Activities Association is the governing body for interscholastic athletic competition in Florida. It has a membership of 660 middle and senior high schools. The FHSAA annually conducts state championship series in 21 sports in which state scholastic champions are crowned.
