Wein, Kirton re-elected to FHSAA Board of Directors
GAINESVILLE Norman Wein and Jim Kirton have been elected to second terms on the Florida High School Activities Association Board of Directors following recently concluded run-off elections, Commissioner Robert W. Hughes announced today.
Wein, athletic director at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, was re-elected to the Section 1 Private School Directors seat. He defeated Bob West, athletic director at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville.
Kirton, principal of Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach, was re-elected to the Section 2 Public School Directors seat. He defeated Vic Cervizzi, athletic director at Central High School in Brooksville.
Both Wein and Kirton will serve terms of three years.
In other run-off elections:
Michael Blasewitz, principal of Edgewater High School in Orlando, defeated Paula Steele, principal of St. Augustine High School, for the vacant public school seat on the Section 2 Appeals Committee. This committee meets monthly during the school year to hear eligibility appeals and requests for undue hardship eligibility waivers. Blasewitz's term on the committee is for three years.
Dennis Duffy, athletic director at Stewart Middle School in Zephyrhills, defeated Christopher Wilson, athletic director at Fox Chapel Middle School in Spring Hill, for the vacant junior high/middle school delegate seat from Section 2 on the Representative Assembly. This body meets annually to consider proposals to amend the FHSAA Bylaws. Duffy's term on the assembly is for two years.
The FHSAA, the governing body for interscholastic athletics in Florida, is comprised of more than 600 middle, junior and senior high schools. Its membership is divided along existing county lines into four administrative sections for the purpose of determining representation on its governing bodies. Section 1 consists of all member schools from Pensacola to Jacksonville. Section 2 consists of all member schools from Gainesville south to Orlando.
