Commissioner holds hearing on Miami High investigation
GAINESVILLE Commissioner Ron Davis today held a hearing on the Florida High School Activities Associations investigation into rules violations allegedly committed by the Miami High School athletic program.
The hearing was held in the FHSAA Office in Gainesville. Principal Victor Lopez and Athletic Director Jose Nunez participated on behalf of Miami High School. Commissioner Davis, Deputy Commissioner Ron Allen and FHSAA Legal Counsel Leonard Ireland participated on behalf of the FHSAA.
During the hearing Allen reviewed his investigation into the allegations against Miami High School, following which Lopez and Nunez were given an opportunity to respond. Davis then questioned Lopez and Nunez on points raised by the investigation.
The hearing lasted one hour, 40 minutes.
I appreciate Mr. Lopez and Mr. Nunez participation on behalf of Miami High School in the hearing, Davis said. They were candid and forthcoming in their responses to my questions.
Davis will take under advisement the investigation report, all correspondence with and documentation provided by Miami High School, as well as the testimony presented during the hearing, when he makes his ruling.
The FHSAA will publicly announce Davis ruling after Miami High School has received and had ample time to review the letter.
