Schools required to attend compliance seminar in July 2008

The comprehensive revision to FHSAA Bylaws Article 3, "Membership," requires each and every member school to send one representative – either its principal, FHSAA representative or athletic director – to a compliance seminar conducted by the FHSAA staff at least once every three years.

3.3.2.3 Attendance at Compliance Seminar. A member school, at least once every three years, must be represented by either its principal, FHSAA representative, or athletic director at an FHSAA compliance seminar.

The compliance seminar, previously known as the member orientation workshop, will be held July 28-29, 2008, at Gainesville High School. The seminar will be a two-day program and will require an overnight stay. Complete seminar information, including the schedule, will be posted on FHSAA.org in the near future.

In order to administer this new requirement and to establish a rotation for attendance so that all schools do not attend in the same year, all current member schools have been divided into three groups. The group of schools listed below must attend the compliance seminar on July 28-29, 2008.

Member schools required to attend the seminar on July 28-29, 2008, were notified of this requirement on a pink flyer that was enclosed with the manuals for the winter and spring sports, and was also inclosed with the "Application for Continuing Membership." Any school that cannot be represented at the July 28-29, 2008, meeting because of prior plans may request a one-year deferment. The request for deferment must be made in writing on school stationery and state the reason why the school cannot send one of the three acceptable representatives to the meeting. Deferments will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Schools which were granted deferment for the 2007 seminar can not be granted a deferment for the 2008 seminar. A school that is granted a one-year deferment must attend the seminar in Summer 2009. Its place in the three-year rotation will not be altered, meaning that it will have to attend the seminar again in the Summer of 2011.

First-time member schools must attend the compliance seminar in both years of the provisional period before settling into the three-year rotation. The principal, FHSAA representative and athletic director – all three – must attend the seminar in the first year of the provisional period. Only one of the three individuals is required to attend in th second year.

3.2.1.1 First Year. During the first year of the provisional period:
(a) The school must be represented at an FHSAA compliance seminar by its principal, FHSAA representative and athletic director; and
(b) The school must complete and submit a self-study and evaluation of its interscholastic athletic programs in a form prescribed by the Board of Directors;

3.2.1.2 Second Year. During the second year of the provisional period:
(a) The school must be represented at an FHSAA compliance seminar by either its principal, FHSAA representative or athletic director; and
(b) The school must submit to an onsite inspection of its interscholastic athletic programs.

Here is a complete list of schools required to attend the compliance seminar on July 28-29, 2008. Schools in bold have confirmed attendance.
